1. General Structure
The ProAm Duel of Legends is a new and exclusive competition format structured in successive rounds of one-on-one duels between couples. Each duel consists of a single dance, with the winner advancing to the next round.
2. Duel Rounds Format
- Random Pairing: Couples are randomly matched against each other by the competition system for each duel round. The process is fully automated and impartial.
- Random Dance Selection: The dance for each duel will be selected at random from the official list of dances for the relevant style. The dance will be announced shortly before the duel starts.
Example for International Latin: Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, or Jive.
- Each duel features only one dance.
- The chosen dance may differ from one duel to another, even within the same round.
3. Duel Progression
After the elimination round (if applicable), the Duel of Legends proceeds as follows:
- When 16 couples remain → 8 duels are held → 8 winners advance to next round
- When 8 couples remain → 4 duels are held → 4 winners advance to next round
- When 4 couples remain → 2 duels are held → 2 winners advance to next round
- Grand Final Round: 2 couples compete in a single duel → the winner is crowned Champion
Each duel eliminates one couple, and only the winner advances to the next round.
4. Entry and Elimination Rounds
- If more than 16 couples are registered in a style, an elimination round will be held to select the top 16 couples who will proceed to the duel stage.
- If more than 8 and up to 16 couples are registered, an elimination round will be held to select the top 8 couples.
- If more than 4 and up to 8 couples are registered, an elimination round will be held to select the top 4 couples.
- If 4 or fewer couples are registered, the competition starts directly with the duel rounds.
The elimination round is conducted in the traditional competition format — not as duels — and includes all five dances of the relevant style. Couples are judged across all dances and ranked as in a standard ProAm event.
5. Adjudication
- Duels are judged by an odd number of adjudicators to ensure decisive outcomes.
- The number of adjudicators may be 1, 3, 5, or any other odd number.
- The couple receiving the majority of votes wins the duel and proceeds to the next round.
